How we work
Currently, four clinics are operating in
the outlying townships of Yangon and serve an average of 10-15
people per 3 hour work day.
These neighborhoods are very poor with little access to primary
health care.
Ongoing training occurs in the form of:
- Discussion sessions moderated, or lectures
given, by a senior physician at least once a month.
- Provision of educational materials.
- Close direct supervision by a volunteer
foreign trained Burmese physician several times a year.
- Distribution of allowances to attend courses
for family practitioners conducted by the MMA (Myanmar Medical
Association)
The numbers of patients and need for more clinics
continues to grow. The current cost of one clinic is approximately
$2,500 per year.
This money supports the salaries of physicians,
office staff, office rental, medical equipment, medication, basic
testing and continuing training. |
